HERE&NOW13 Residencies

In preparation for the HERE&NOW13 exhibition, to be presented as a part of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery’s annual exhibition of emerging Western Australian Artists, artists Katrina Barber and Julian Poon will take up residence in the PICA studios from the 24th June to 18th August. The HERE&NOW13 exhibition will for the first time bring together 11 of Western Australia’s most outstanding artists with disabilities. The exhibition alongside an extensive publication, and a public program will aim to highlight the uniqueness of contemporary disability arts practice. HERE&NOW13 will see a diverse group of artists explore processes of communication, embodiment and narrative through a variety of art forms including painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, performance and the digital medias.

HERE&NOW13 exhibition will be on display at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, University of Western Australia from 26th July to 28th September 2013.

Julian Poon began drawing at the age of 8 years. His works are founded in the ancient histories with religion, symbolism and the Middle Ages taking prominence, often spilling over into fantastical re-imaginings of some outer cosmos and J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle Earth.

Informed by a sense of isolation, Katrina Barber’s current works are self-reflective ephemeral feelings and emotions expressed through painting and most recently forms of light installation.
