This new, live audio-visual work will be premiered by West Australian trailblazer Kynan Tan in a one-night only concert. Two years in the making, perspectives [temporal] is a unique occasion to see and hear how Kynan Tan masterfully intertwines sound and image. Hijacking PICA’s vast main gallery, this double projection, multi-speaker synaesthetic composition deliberately confuses and resets the real and imaginary networks that surround our waking and sleeping lives.

An adventurous digital artist, Tan designs, builds and engages his own programs to construct hundreds of scenes of computer-generated animations, data visualisations, found footage, and solar system simulations. An emerging voice in sound, video and sensory art, this unpredictable, non-linear soundscape is Kynan Tan’s latest offering.

Using and testing the limits of a massive sound system in the acoustic environment of PICA’s double height gallery, Tan will undertake a live exploration of the transference of light and sound energy into physical realms, immersing the audience in a powerful sensory experience.

The concert will be followed by a discussion with Kynan Tan and local sound luminary Lindsay Vickery.

Kynan Tan is an artist who works with digital processes to create works that investigate networks, data transference and relational structures between multiple senses. These works take the form of multi-screen audio-visual performances, installations, 3D-printed sculptures, improvised sound, and kinetic artworks involving speakers, amplifiers and LED lights. Kynan has been the recipient of several fellowships and development grants including a DCA Young People and the Arts Fellowship (2013), Australia Council Artstart grant (2013), and participated in the JUMP Mentorship Program (2012)- studying with renowned audio-visual artist Robin Fox. Kynan has performed in Japan, Germany and throughout Australia, including events such as Test Tone (Tokyo), Channels Video Art Festival (Melbourne) and the NOW now Festival of Art (Sydney). His works have also been exhibited at MOCA (Taipei, Taiwan), NH7 Festival (Pune, India), and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.
