At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

We are closed today. Our exhibitions are always free.

Body politics + sci-fi
Independent creator and performer of Kalkadoon heritage, Joshua Pether, takes us on a sci-fi adventure that opens up a new world filled with surreal and fantastical realities – questioning perceptions of what is real and what is not.
In his second solo work, Pether combines movement, sound and video to negotiate the hazy boundaries between fantasy and reality, myth and truth. Charting experiences of isolation and distance, this physical and ritualistic performance negotiates personal identity and body politics. A simultaneously immersive and visceral experience for performer and audience alike, Jupiter Orbiting explores perceptions of trauma, mental health, empathy and self-transformation.
Commissioned by Next Wave Festival and PICA, this is the WA premiere of Jupiter Orbiting, following tours to New York at Performance Space and Brisbane at SuperCell Contemporary Dance Festival.
