ABOUT NIGHT TRAIN
Night Train is a chamber theatre company devoted to the craft of theatrical storytelling. The company comprises a shifting ensemble of multi-skilled independent artists and theatre-workers led by actor, writer and director Humphrey Bower and based in Perth.
Night Train makes theatre based on short stories, novels, poems, myths, legends, folktales and other materials – found or original, old or new, from faraway or close to home. Performances take place in intimate venues and use minimal and imaginative staging to make work on a human scale with a visceral connection between the performers and with the audience. Text and the body are central to the work, supported by music, choreography, lighting, sound and other design or staging elements. Underlying the work is the power of the story to transform the space, the performers and the audience.
Previous productions include: Wish (Studio Underground, 2014, co-produced with PTC, and Blue Room, 2011), Asterion (Proximity Festival, PICA, 2013), Masks (Summer Nights, Fringe World, PICA, 2013), Skin (Blue Room, 2012 and La Mama, 2008), The Kreutzer Sonata (La Mama, Carlton Courthouse, 2007 and Port Fairy Music Festival, 2009) and Raising the Dead (La Mama, 2007, and as Fyodor’s Demons, Blue Room, 2005,).
