At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

We are closed today. Our exhibitions are always free.

i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night

Presented by PICA and Rachel Arianne Ogle

A meditation on time, perspective and the moment of death.

In this cinematic installation of improvised light and sound, a single human body becomes an abstracted focal point — a disembodied drishti within an unfolding science fiction odyssey. The work explores states of transition and the synergy between light, sound and the body, offering audiences a meditation on time, perspective and the moment of death.

i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night reunites the creative team from precipice – Rachel Arianne Ogle (choreography and performance), Luke Smiles (sound design & live production) and Benjamin Cisterne (set, lighting design & live production). Via a residency at EMPAC Rensselaer, New York in 2017, the collaborators have created a transcendental experiment in design. An external feed of radio communications and cosmic chatter manipulates the dynamics of light and sound in real time, which are then shaped and responded to live – creating a unique and precarious experience in each performance.

Direct from its world premiere season in Melbourne’s Dance Massive Festival, i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night is the sequel to precipice.

precipice is showing at the State Theatre Centre of WA from 29 May to 1 June. Tickets on sale here.
