At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

We are closed today. Our exhibitions are always free.

Tarryn Gill and Pilar Mata Dupont will transform PICA’s Tower Studio into an elaborate stage for their latest work,Heart of Gold Project 3. This is the third stage of their visual research in preparation for a future production (in collaboration with Thea Costantino), The Heart of Gold, an original theatrical musical set during a fictional Australian civil war, circa 1935. Tarryn and Pilar will use the studio to develop a space where they can explore the effects of war on entertainment and the media, Australian nationalism, and the glamourisation of the military used both in fascist propaganda and American pin-up photography of the early twentieth century.
