During their six-month Hyper Local residency, Aaron Claringbold and Rebecca McCauley will develop two long-term projects. Emerging from a residency with Art on the Move in Gathaagudu (Shark Bay, WA), What can I say without touching the earth with my hands (working title) is a new body of images which considers people’s interconnected relationships with their environments. Facilitated by the Shire of Shark Bay, it continues to be developed in conversation with Malgana Traditional Owners and Rangers, DBCA staff, scientists, and members of the community.

Crayfish Dreaming examines different cultural relationships to the rock lobster. Working with Noongar artist Jack Mitchell and kailoma-Fijian artist Eliki Reade, the project compiles different histories and knowledge to expose the tensions and ways of understanding and relating to place along and off the West Australian coastline.
