Join Archie Moore, renowned Kamilaroi/Bigambul artist and guest judge for the Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Awards, as he shares an artist talk to mark the opening weekend of the Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025. A former Hatched alum, Moore will share insights into the development and presentation of his Golden Lion-awarded Venice Biennale work, kith and kin (2024). Moore works across a range of media and is well-known for his research-driven practice that often combines historical examinations with personal reflections to address the lived experience of Indigenous Australians. His ongoing interests include key signifiers of identity (skin, language, smell, home, genealogy, flags), the borders of intercultural understanding and misunderstanding, and the wider concerns of racism.

About the artist
Archie Moore completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology in 1998 and in 2018 was awarded QUT’s Creative Industries Faculty Outstanding Alumni Award. In 2001, he was awarded the Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship which enabled him to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
In 2024, Moore presented the solo exhibition, kith and kin, in the Australia Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale, curated by Ellie Buttrose. kith and kin was awarded the Golden Lion for best National Participation. In August 2024, the Australian Government announced the acquisition of kith and kin to be gifted jointly to Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane and Tate, London. ARTnet named kith and kin #1 in its list of Defining Works of 2024.
Prior to this, Jose Da Silva curated The Colour Line: Archie Moore & W.E.B. Du Bois at UNSW Galleries, Sydney in 2021 and in 2018, Griffith University Art Museum presented the solo exhibition, Archie Moore 1970 – 2018, curated by GUAM Director, Angela Goddard. Moore’s work has also featured in The National: New Australian Art, Carriageworks, Sydney, 2017; Defying Empire: National Indigenous Art Triennial, curated by Tina Baum, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 2017; and the 20th Biennale of Sydney, curated by Stephanie Rosenthal, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, 2016.
Moore’s permanent public artwork, United Neytions, was commissioned as part of a partnership between Sydney Airport and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in 2018 and is located airside at Sydney International Airport. Moore’s works are held in various public and private collections.
