At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

We are open 10am–5pm. Our exhibitions are always free.

BLEED: In Conversation

BLEED: In Conversation

BLEED artist Yinga Chen discusses his artwork Eternal Journey of the Digital Soul with artist, curator and artwork subject Paul Boyé. Harnessing AI technology to create distinct digital personas, Chen interviewed four individuals from various backgrounds and ages (including Boyé) to explore their views on life, death, identity and legacy. With this work, Chen invites audiences to reflect on their own lives and legacies, their enduring relationship with the digital world and how AI technology can influence the process of mourning.

Yinga Chen graduated from the Department of Textiles and Clothing at Fu Jen Catholic University in 2016. In 2022 he founded CHILLGA, a brand focused on experimenting with different materials, forms, techniques and human connections, embracing the concept of upcycling to challenge the infinite potential of objects. In 2023 his work was exhibited at the RE:AND Art and Design Fair in Taipei, Taiwan.

Paul Boyé is a writer and researcher living in Boorloo (Perth), on Whadjuk Noongar boodja. They have recently completed a PhD at the UWA School of Design, researching contemporary artistic and philosophical responses to emergent social technologies.
