Hatched Artist-in-Residence

Presented as part of Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025, the Hatched artist-in-residence program offers a residency to one WA-based and one interstate artist participating in the Hatched exhibition. This opportunity provides time, space and a new context to develop their practice, embark on new projects and be a part of PICA’s creative community.   

Elsa Mona’s practice engages with movement and choreography to activate sculptures and spaces, dissolving the boundaries between artist, artwork and viewer. During her residency at PICA, she will collaborate with artist and musician Annika Moses to develop a collaborative performance that blends dance and vocalisation to examine themes of human and non-human relationships and ecological grief. 

Elsa Mona is a visual and performance artist based in Boorloo, weaving together movement and image-making to explore the intersection between body, space and materiality. With a background in contemporary dance and ballet, she trained at WAAPA before earning a Bachelor of Visual Art with a Minor in Photo Media. Her work is driven by a deep curiosity for research, collaboration, and process—embracing diverse materials and mediums to tell embodied stories. Within her practice, she creates performances that verge on collapse, where the integrity of the worlds she builds is constantly at risk. This fragility serves as a metaphor for the tension between brutality and tenderness within the ecosystems we inhabit.

Annika Moses is a multidisciplinary artist who finds joy in writing, playing, listening and sewing. Nika Mo is the moniker under which she performs and release alt/freak-folk music. Great Statue is the music and ‘performance art’ moniker through which she channels the still-living Laurie Anderson in karaoke drag. Annika performs and contributes to the musical projects Didion’s Bible and Lyndon Blue. She also organises and curates with Tone List, a Boorloo-based label for exploratory music. Annika’s work has been exhibited in various festivals and recognised with national awards.
