For the second National Graduate Show, each art teaching institution in Australia was invited to select works from their end of year shows for exhibition at PICA.

The form of the exhibition: collecting together finished art pieces, cannot give a thorough account of the training the student follows to get to this stage – that information is often more clearly displayed in the research and analysis documentation in the students’ ‘portfolios’. In so far as this exhibition intended to say something about art education, this edit to the data should be kept in mind when considering these works as evidence of the success or failure of the complex activity that comprises an education in art.

In staging this exhibition, PICA intended it to be a celebration of the courage and dedication of those who pursue the ambition to be artists; the show is intended to be a snapshot of work in progress rather than a final assessment.

In 1993, PICA thanked the Hon. Peter Foss, BA, L.B., ML Minister for the Arts, Health and Consumer Affairs for agreeing to open the exhibition.
PICA also acknowledged the institutions for their moral and financial support of this exhibition and the student unions for assisting with freight and student travel.

X-Press Magazine continued as an exhibition sponsor and radio station ‘Triple J’ was welcomed as a new major sponsor.
PICA thanked Belinda Carrigan and her assistant Peta Coghlan for coordinating this exhibition and Michelle Milton for marketing and promotion, alongside Schweppes and the Western Australian Museum for their support. Thanks also to Campbell Cornish and his art administration students from CMC of TAFE and other PICA friends and volunteers for their valuable assistance.

PICA especially thanked the graduates for agreeing to make their work available and, in many cases, for coming to Perth from interstate to help install their work at PICA.
