Hatched 2001

Hatched: National Graduate Show 2001 presented the work of 67 graduate artists across Australia, representing 15 universities and art schools.

The Hatched Symposium in 2001, subtitled “Engaging Australia” drew on an outstanding line-up of speakers. PICA welcomed Blair French, Research Officer at the Power Institute, University of Sydney; Professor Anne Graham, Head of the School of Art at the University of Newcastle; Dr Pat Hoffie, Convenor of Painting at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and Tim Smith, Associate Dean of the School of Art & Design at the Northern Territory University. Locally, Associate Professor Margaret Seares, Chair of the Australia Council and Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of WA, Dr Ann Schilo from the School of Art, Curtin University and artist and writer, Dr Chris Crouch complete the line-up for the 2001 program.

PICA continued to receive essential support from major sponsor, Healthway, the Western Australian Health Promotion Fund and the FPWA. Healthway were the major sponsor for the Hatched: Healthway National Graduate Show, since the very beginning, and it is true to say, that without their valued support, this project could not take place.

PICA also acknowledged the importance of our relationship to ACUADs (Australian Council of University Art & Design Schools) as well our particular peer network, CAOS, the national association of contemporary art organisations. Special thanks to X-Press and Zebra Magazines, for ongoing commitment and promotion of Hatched. The River View On Mount Street has assisted with accomodation for the visiting speakers, alongside support from RTR fm, Luna Cinemas, Campus Cards, the Curtin Student Guild, the UWA Student Guild, Integrated Print Management and in-house designer, Publicity and Marketing Coordinator, Brad Rummer.
