Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025

Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025

Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025 marks the 34th edition of PICA’s landmark annual exhibition. Showcasing recent graduates from art schools across Australia, Hatched offers a national survey of emerging artistic talent, highlighting the diversity and creativity of some of the country’s most promising new artists. As the only exhibition of its kind in Australia, Hatched has become a much-anticipated program for artists and audiences alike.

Spanning all of PICA’s gallery spaces, Hatched showcases a diverse array of artistic approaches, themes and influences, offering audiences an exciting glimpse into emerging trends in contemporary art practice. Curated by PICA’s Hatched Curatorial Associate, the exhibition serves as a vital platform for early-career curators and artists. For many, Hatched marks their first opportunity to exhibit at a major arts institution, introducing their work to a national audience.

The experience is enriched by a vibrant program of artist and curator talks, live events, school tours, workshops and activities for all ages. Participating artists also gain access to valuable professional development opportunities, such as peer networking, mentoring, studio residencies and public forums that explore key issues facing early-career artists.

For the 16th consecutive year, PICA will partner with The University of Western Australia to present the Schenberg Art Awards, the largest prize pool for emerging artists in the country. The Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Awards consist of three $15,000 prizes and a People’s Choice Award of $5,000, awarded at the exhibition’s conclusion. These awards are made possible by funds bequeathed by Dr. Harold Schenberg to The University of Western Australia.

Since its inception in 1992, Hatched has showcased the work of over 1,400 artists, serving as a crucial platform for early-career artists in Australia. PICA continues to follow the careers of Hatched alumni. To see what past participants are doing now visit our Hatched: National Graduate Show website
