PICA’s contemporary interpretation of the traditional salon takes the form of an exhibition of curated local, national and international contemporary artists who have contributed to PICA’s 24 year history.
The Salon Vernissage is the spectacular opening night of the PICA Salon and will take place on Saturday 20 July 2013 in PICAʼs Westend Gallery. Since its inception in 2010, this exclusive celebration has firmly developed a reputation for being one of Perthʼs most sophisticated events. It promises to be a dazzling evening of art, fashion, music and performance and invitations are available to ART1000 donors.
AUCTION ITEMS
The Salon Auction contains three artworks, including one by Jeppe Hein, remembered for his stunning outdoor installation in 2010, Appearing Rooms, which is now a permanent fixture after the City of Perth commissioned a special version for Forrest Place! For PICA Salon, Jeppe has produced a unique neon work, referencing his current interests in the notion of happiness.
The second work by Queensland artist Ross Manning, who featured in the Volumes exhibition as part of this year’s Perth Festival, is a stunning kinetic work, the last available edition of its kind. The third work is limited edition photograph by emerging South Australian artist CJ Taylor, who participated in the Hatched: National Graduate Show 2012. A fourth, special item has been provided by Dilettante and is a garment designed by Vivienne Westwood. This can be viewed on the night and is sure to appeal to lovers of fashion!
