We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Moses Kington-Walberg

Play-Ground

Play-Ground

Regional Quick Response artist-in-residence, Moses Mohammed Kington-Walberg, invites you to drop into Studio 2 at PICA for an afternoon of mutually inspired sound and art. During his residency, Moses is working with musical instruments, found objects, field recordings, photography and Eucalyptus branches from his family farm to create an immersive and interactive sound-garden. “I’ve tried to play as freely and eclectically as I can using simple materials. The Eucalyptus installation is reminiscent of games we’d play as kids along the Avon River in Toodyay.”

Audiences are also invited to play. Drop in and create with Eucalyptus in the studio whilst listening to a live ambient-experimental sound-set by Moses.

About the artist

Moses Kington-Walberg is an early career composer from the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia (Ballardong, Yued and Whadjuk Noongar country). His current work explores ideas of interpretive autonomy, bioacoustics and ‘the ordinary’, seeking to quietly tackle mechanistic protocols in traditional classical settings. Moses’ compositions are experimental, texturally driven and dynamic, underpinned by playful, highly collaborative performance philosophies. Moses received a Bachelor of Music (Hons.) from the University of Melbourne (under Elliott Gyger) and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Australia (under James Ledger). He has participated in various training programs including those hosted by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Australian Art Orchestra. Moses has composed for a number of ensembles and soloists across Australia, and has been recognised with awards including the Dorothy Ellen Ransom Prize in Musical Composition, the WA Symphony Orchestra Bendat Scholarship and the Ellinor Gertrude Harris Bequest.
