Quick Response Residency

Quick Response Residency

Shannon Lyons will use her Quick Response Residency to prepare, in the lead-up to the opening of Café coming soon, her major mid-career survey exhibition at PICA on 17 October 2026.  

The residency will provide dedicated time and space to bring together new and re-staged works, refine the exhibition’s installation and consolidate over two decades of site-responsive practice into a cohesive exhibition.  

About the artist

Shannon Lyons (born 1984, Boorloo/Perth) is a multi-disciplinary artist who explores the complex relationships that exist between art and its context. Her works take the form of installations, sculptures, gestures and interventions that critically examine the sites where they are made or exhibited. Lyons graduated with a PhD in Visual Art from Curtin University in 2016. Prior to this she completed the renowned SOMA Summer Program in 2012 and the Advanced Course in Visual Arts, Fondazione Antonio Ratti in 2004. Since 2005, she has exhibited widely across Australia, in both solo and group exhibitions. Recent solo exhibitions include The beautiful is useful (with Lisa Liebetrau), Goolugatup Heathcote, Perth (2023); Three rooms, Bus Projects, Melbourne (2021); Li, Bundoora Homestead, Melbourne (2021); Dark Kitchen, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne (2019); and A dead mouse and a broken coffee machine, Bus Projects, Melbourne (2018).
