Friend World is a new project that Perth artist Tom Penney will develop during his residency at PICA. A response to the transforming aesthetic of the Perth Cultural Centre, Penney will mimic Perth’s new sense of community constructed through veneers of brightly coloured paint, awkward sculptures, super-sized screens and decorated rubbish bins. Penney continues to use digital and 3D software to create virtual spaces, pixelated caricatures, bad puns, camp performances and vulgar jokes.
Friend World is a place where cultural cringe will be exploited and celebrated!
