Arriving in Boorloo (Perth) as a featured artist in PICA’s major 2026 exhibition Painting Itself / 绘画本身, Un Cheng will undertake a four-week artist residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), presented in partnership with Edith Cowan University (ECU). During this time, Cheng will immerse herself in the local arts community, building meaningful connections with artists, students and researchers across PICA and ECU. Cheng will explore new dialogues around painting, using the experience to expand the conceptual and cultural frameworks that inform her practice. 

This residency offers Cheng a unique opportunity to situate her work within the context of Boorloo’s dynamic creative landscape while fostering exchange between contemporary art and academic research.
