At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Wayne Lim

Quick Response Residency

Quick Response Residency

During his PICA Quick Response Residency, Wayne Lim will develop an experimental film that examines the complexities of familial relationships in young adulthood, shaped by migration, a search for belonging, and the banality of family life. Drawing on archival photographs and home videos that trace childhood memories with his family in Singapore and newly recorded footage of their everyday life in Australia, the work will layer past and present and explore the potential to (re)interpret memories through analog image transfer methods.

About the artist

Wayne Lim is a documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Boorloo (Perth). Across both journalistic and personal projects, his work sits at the intersection of longing and belonging. His films have been awarded at the College Photographer of the Year competition and screened in competition at the Academy Award-qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (Japan) and the Singapore Youth Film Festival, among others. As a lens-based artist working with analog and experimental processes, his practice is grounded in an ongoing search for self and home.
