Ross Hamilton Frew’s practice is rooted in mark making and concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines and surfaces. Be it through drawing, collage, print or assemblage, his work always adheres to a series of predetermined or self imposed rules and structures.
During his residency Ross will place an emphasis on ‘surface’ and by collecting recyclable materials such as books, newspapers and magazines from in and around Perth, he will create various paper materials. Both two and three dimensional, the created surface with it’s bespoke markings will dictate what is drawn upon it, but not before the original content is dissected to create haiku poetry.
