At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Our foyer is open today 10am–5pm. Our exhibitions are always free.

The Art of Documentation with Jacqui Shelton

The Art of Documentation with Jacqui Shelton

PICA is inviting independent artists to participate in a free workshop with artist, filmmaker, photographer and WHEN I AM NOT THERE collaborator Jacqui Shelton. Based in Naarm (Melbourne), Shelton works with artists, musicians and community groups to document work through film, photos, books and more. In this workshop, artists will explore the art of documentation and how information is materialised through the lens of a camera.

RSVP below to attend.

About the Artists

Jacqui Shelton is a visual artist and writer working with performance, filmmaking and online spaces. Using storytelling, documentation and vocal actions that are often ephemeral, Shelton engages with different histories and sites, examining the intimacies and conflicts that develop, and how these shape relations between people. Shelton is especially interested in how embodied experience, language and images can produce new meaning or undermine understanding.
