Join us to celebrate the opening of two huge solo exhibitions presented in association with Perth Festival.
ALCHEMIC by CASSILS
Internationally acclaimed transgender artist Cassils’ first exhibition in Australia features video, photography and sculpture, as well as a presentation of their iconic performance, Becoming an Image. With breathtaking skill and finesse, the artist uses their body to question attitudes and society structures, changing it through rigorous training and nutrition schedules to create artworks that offer shared experiences for contemplating histories of violence, representation, struggle and survival.
LOWER POWER by MARCO FUSINATO
This larger than life exhibition features new works from Melbourne based Marco Fusinato’s Infinitives series (2009-). These are images sourced from the international mass media in which a protagonist is brandishing a rock in the decisive moment of a riot. As in Baroque paintings, the movement is frozen at the height of the action to emphasise the dynamism of the composition and its theatricality. Each of the sourced images is enlarged to history-painting scale using the latest commercial print technologies.
