At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Joel Ong

During his residency at PICA, Singaporean artist Joel Ong will develop a piece that explores the stethoscope as a device for encountering intimate spaces. By presenting an installation composed of infrasound and the amplication of minute vibrations, he explores the issues surrounding representations of the body both in science and in art. The acoustical premise of mediate auscultation is exploited in a way that defines the body as a resonating chamber. Joel’s artistic practice includes musical composition for interdisciplinary ventures, acousmatic field recording, hardware hacking for improvisational performances and other sound-related ventures.
