At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Galleries are open today, 10am–5pm. Our exhibitions are always free.

Motion Pictures

We’re riddled with pointless talk, insane amounts of words and images. Stupidity is never blind or mute. So the problem is no longer getting people to express themselves, but providing little gaps of solitude and silence in which they might eventually find something to say. Gilles Deleuze, Mediators Motion pictures is an exhibition of video works by some of the country’s finest emerging and established artists. The exhibition takes as its starting point Deleuze’s insightful commentary, with all works in the exhibition sharing a single defining feature: no audio. Motion Pictures sets out to re-enchant audiences through nostalgically returning to the era of silent cinema and the silver screen, when image first learnt how to move.
