Yen Tzu Chang

2023 represents the first of a three-year residency exchange program between PICA and residency partners, Taipei Artist Village (Taiwan) and Grey Projects (Singapore). In this program, Western Australian artists are invited to apply for an eight-week artist residency with our international partners. Awarded to two artists each year, the residency will include studio visits, open studios and other presentation opportunities in each hosting country. In exchange, PICA will host an artist from Taiwan and Singapore recommended to us by our residency partners. The exchange enables artists from Western Australia, Taiwan and Singapore to expand their networks, form connections and develop and pursue their practices with close engagement to local art communities and institutions.

Yen Tzu Chang is a new media and sound artist based in Taiwan. She combines art, programming and technical media into her artworks, including interdisciplinary art and experimental performances based on sound installations. Tzu Chang has presented her work in many international contexts, including Ars Electronica Festival, roBOt 08 Festival, Linux Audio Conference, International Symposium on Electronic Arts, Digital Design Weekend in London and Most Wanted: Music in Berlin.
As part of her residency Yen Tzu Chang presents a performance lecture based on her residency project, The Anomaly – a projection and sound-based work combining field recordings and images from both Taipei and Boorloo (Perth).

Supported by PICA’s Art Ambassadors and North Metropolitan Tafe.
