Finding your way to PICA — Visual Story with Video

PICA is in the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge on the lower level of the precinct. In 2026, pedestrian access to the precinct is limited, with large areas fenced off due to construction work as part of the Perth Cultural Centre Rejuvenation project.  

There are several ways to get to PICA during this period: 

From the corner of William Street & James Street

You can get to PICA via the white exposed aggregate walkway, located on the right-hand-side of the construction hoarding.  

Walk east past the Blue Room Theatre and you will arrive at PICA’s entrance. This route offers stair-free accessibility via the low-incline ramp on the left-hand-side of PICA’s entrance. 

From the Perth Train Station / Urban Orchid

You can get to PICA via the Urban Orchard. Follow the footpath through the Urban Orchard and then head down the stairwell to the Level 1 exit.  You’ll find the stairs on the far right-hand-side of the Urban Orchard if approaching from the direction of the Art Gallery of WA.  

If you arrive by train, a pedestrian overpass bridge takes you from the Perth Train Station to the Urban Orchard.  

You can also take this route if coming from the pedestrian overpass at the Horseshoe Bridge, or from the direction of Beaufort Street and Francis Street.   

There are lifts located opposite the Art Gallery of WA. This access route will require having to travel through the Perth Cultural Centre Car Park, and then exiting via Level 1. The door exiting the stairwell is 117 cm wide. 

From the Perth Cultural Center Car Park (2 Roe Street), level 1 exit

You can get to PICA via the Perth Cultural Centre Car Park (Location: 2 Roe Street), which has a pedestrian route leading to PICA from the Level 1 exit. The door exiting the stairwell is 117 cm wide. 

This carpark has lifts available if parking on Level 2 or Level 3, making it a stair-free access route. This carpark also has ACROD parking bays. The maximum height of vehicles is 1.9 m. 

From the State Library Carpark (Francis Street) via James Street cul-de-sac

You can get to PICA via the State Library Car Park (Location: 15 Francis Street), which has a pedestrian route leading to the James Street cul-de-sac.  

When exiting the carpark, turn right towards James Street as you head through the automatic sliding glass doors. The area on the left-hand-side is currently blocked off.   

This carpark has lifts available, making it a stair-free access route. This carpark also has ACROD parking bays. The maximum height of vehicles is 2 m.  

From WA Museum Boola Bardip

You can get to PICA from the WA Museum Boola Bardip, which has a temporary pedestrian route leading to the Urban Orchard.  

Exit WA Museum Boola Bardip, turn left towards the State Library, and walk along the footpath. When you get to the temporary walkway, turn right and walk towards the Art Gallery of WA until you reach the Urban Orchard. 

Follow the footpath through the Urban Orchard and then head down the stairwell to the Level 1 exit.  You’ll find the stairs on the far right-hand-side of the Urban Orchard if approaching from the direction of the Art Gallery of WA.   

Entering via Picabar

Between 12–5pm, you can access PICA through double doors leading from Picabar into the PICA Hub on the ground floor.   

Please note that the double doors are not automatic and are not always open due to noise or weather considerations.  

If the doors are locked during these times, you can exit Picabar and head towards James Street and take the temporary ramp access, which will lead you to PICA’s main entrance.
