Ground Floor Facilities

Welcome desk

Upon entering PICA, our Front of House team can assist you with information, directions and access needs you might have. They can usually be found at the green desk on your left-hand-side as you enter the gallery. 

Cloaking Facility 

If you want to cloak items or large bags, they can be left with our staff in the foyer who will store them safely on shelves near the front desk.  

PICA Shop 

The PICA Shop is located in the foyer, behind the welcome desk. Here, you can browse and purchase PICA publications, and merchandise.  

PICA Hub 

The PICA Hub is our community space where you’ll find free artmaking activities for all ages and abilities. It is located on the ground floor between the lift and Picabar. This is a place where you can sit, relax and make art for as long as you like.  

Lifts and stairs

There is an access lift for mobility aids or wheelchairs that can assist you in getting to the ground floor of the building from the foyer. Our staff will help you operate the wheelchair lift from the foyer to the galleries. It is located on the left-hand-side of the stairs in the foyer. 

The access lift is 104 cm wide and can take a maximum weight of 315 kgs. It is designed for 1 person in a wheelchair with an attendant or three people standing.  To get to the first floor, you can take the main lift or stairs from the ground floor. You’ll find the lift and stairs opposite the PICA Hub. 

Seating 

There are low padded vinyl benches throughout the building where you can sit and rest.  

Central Galleries 

On the ground floor are the Central Galleries. The double-height Central Gallery has views to the floor above. The galleries may be light or dark, depending on the requirements of the current exhibition.  Spotlights are used to light artworks, which can cause reflections or glare. PICA provides warnings for artworks or any lighting that flashes, strobes or flickers. Sound from artworks may be heard throughout the galleries and in nearby rooms.
