At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Galleries are open today, 10am–5pm. Our exhibitions are always free.

Grounded by Roots, Touching the Sky: Identity, Artistic Influences and Inspiration

Grounded by Roots, Touching the Sky: Identity, Artistic Influences and Inspiration

In Term 1, expect unforgettable encounters with three exhibitions at PICA presented with Perth Festival 2025. Acclaimed international artist, Laure Provoust, and a diverse group of Australian artists explore the factors shaping identity. Connecting with their cultural roots and celebrating their predecessors, the artists delve into the memories, experiences and relationships that have influenced and inspired them. Paying homage to their female forebears, they look to mothers and grandmothers as symbols of growth and connection to the natural world.

Spanning visual arts, performance and participatory art, the exhibitions provide opportunities to analyse how artists have represented ideas and personal expression using different art forms, materials and processes. Students can consider the viewpoints of artists from different cultural backgrounds (Aboriginal, Australian, French and Philippine) and reflect on how context influences their artistic intentions. Interactions between artwork, artist and audience can be unpacked by engaging with participatory and immersive art forms.
