At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

After Dark: Bunuru Opening Night Party

After Dark: Bunuru Opening Night Party

PICA After Dark is back – bigger, bolder and now our official season opener, welcoming each season with an evening of entertainment, community and discovery. Entry is free.

Join us in the gallery on Thursday 6 February for the first After Dark of 2025 – the opening of our Perth Festival exhibitions, including Laure Prouvost’s Oui Move In You, the group show In Her Footsteps: A Tribute to Matrilineal Legacy and Bhenji Ra’s new film Biraddali Dancing on the Horizon.

This Bunuru season celebrates transformative stories and intergenerational connection, privileging matrilineal influences and the interplay of past and present through powerful immersive installations, evocative films and unique site-specific works. The evening includes a dynamic set from 6:30pm by soundscape artist Portia Rose and complimentary Rocky Ridge x PICA Arts and Crafts Pale Ale (while stocks lasts).

About the artist

Portia Rose is a Boorloo (Perth) based soundscape artist who works with collected nature field recordings and live spoken word elements to create immersive sound tapestries and ASMR experiences. Portia has previously been included in programs for Fremantle Biennale (2024), the Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights, the Rechabites Birdbath Projections, the Pickle District’s After Dark Series and WAB Fest. Portia can be found mixing in local listening bar Astral Weeks and hosting shows on RTRFM 92.1.
