At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Galleries are closed until 7 February. Our exhibitions are always free.

After Dark: Pride Edition ft. Cooper Cooper

After Dark: Pride Edition ft. Cooper Cooper

PICA presents a special Pride edition of After Dark, a vibrant celebration of late-night art, music and queer narratives, featuring a dynamic live set from DJ Cooper Cooper.

Discover Jack Ball’s Heavy grit, a new work created for PICA that blends archival and personal images to reveal fragments of trans histories and desires. Paul Knight’s L’ombre de ton ombre (The shadow of your shadow) employs his relationship with his partner Peter as a reflection on time, exploring the intimacy of the present and its connection to both the past and future.

In PICA’s Screen Space, watch Shannon Te Ao’s film what was or could be today (again), which follows elite triathlete Ngarama Milner-Olsen as she swims across Lake Taupō, Aotearoa’s (New Zealand) largest body of water.

Enjoy complimentary Rocky Ridge and PICA Arts and Craft Pale Ale (while stocks last), with Picabar open to keep the party going.

About the artist

Cooper Cooper is a DJ, producer and visual artist who has been a pillar of Boorloo/Perth’s underground dance scene for half a decade, both as a party runner and as a resident at the iconic long-running Connections Nightclub. Describing their sound concoction of leftfield micro-house, tropical Italo-tech and psychedelic balearia, Cooper Cooper is known for their ability to transform the most mundane of discothèques into pockets of queer paradise.

They take on the role of a producer with their mind-bending beats. They have released tracks on DAWS’ ADHD Unlimited label as well as Boorloo’s Midnight Elevator.
