At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

We are open 10am–5pm. Our exhibitions are always free.

Ahilan Ratnamohan: SDS1 2013

Presented for the first time in 2013, SDS1 returns to PICA in 2015 as part of a national Mobile States tour. For more information head to the 2015 SDS1 page.

SDS1 is a new solo dance work by Sydney/Antwerp-based artist Ahilan Ratnamohan exploring the game of football, or soccer, as an art form. A former footballer, Ahilan creates a performance piece derived entirely from the game’s physicality, creating dance-inspired choreography with and without the ball. Through this deep exploration of movement in football the piece ponders efficiency versus artistry, result versus style, and the psyche of vulnerable warriors. This physically charged piece creates layers of movement that take the audience through a surreal and visceral, yet poetic experience of a football match.
