Hatched Artist-in-Residence

Presented as part of Hatched: National Graduate Show 2025, the Hatched artist-in-residence program offers a residency to one WA-based and one interstate artist participating in the Hatched exhibition. This opportunity provides time, space and a new context to develop their practice, embark on new projects and be a part of PICA’s creative community.   

During her residency at PICA, Chloe Catto will expand her sculptural practice by deepening her engagement with new materials and processes including bioplastics, pigments and sealant. Responding to the context of Perth, with its deep ties to mining, she will examine how material transformations occur within cycles of extraction and renewal.

About the artist

Chloe Catto is an emerging artist based in nipaluna/Hobart. Her multidisciplinary practice examines how objects and materials—both physical and ideological—form and interconnect within systems of value that define our relationship to material culture and progress. Working with industrial artifacts, she explores themes of precarity and entropy to expose the autonomy of ‘debased’ matter within networks of reciprocal modification.
