For over twenty years artist and provocateur Richard Bell, has challenged the state of art and politics in Australia. Embassy is Richard Bell’s first solo exhibition in Western Australia and will feature a recreation of the original Aboriginal Tent Embassy, the protest camp set up on the lawns of Parliament House in Canberra. This significant solo exhibition by the Queensland artist will also bring together a selection of Bell’s highly acclaimed paintings and a trilogy of recent and controversial videos.

Embassy represents the culmination of Richard Bell’s Imagining Victory project, a multi-layered body of work that the artist has been developing over a significant period of his artistic career. The project is Bell’s attempt to imagine a future in which Aboriginal people are true equals in society and are the potential leaders of that society. The Tent Embassy was originally set up to challenge the government and pressure it to take action in relation to the human and land rights of the Aboriginal people in Australia. Bell’s Tent Embassy will create a public space for the retelling of stories of oppression and displacement.
