Quick Response Residency

During his Quick Response residency at PICA, Greg Molloy will develop a new body of sculptural and installation works exploring persistence, collapse and hybrid life within the context of the Anthropocene.

Drawing on absurdist philosophy, speculative fiction and ecological thought, the residency investigates how sculpture can embody endurance amid ecological instability and technological transformation. Combining welded steel structures, neon lighting, sound and immersive spatial arrangements, the project will create speculative environments populated by hybrid forms and skeletal architectures.  

About the artist

Greg Molloy is an Irish visual artist based in Boorloo working across sculpture, installation, sound and expanded spatial practice. Molloy’s work explores absurdism in ecological collapse and speculative futures through hybrid forms that merge animal, machinic and skeletal elements. 

Drawing on mythology, dystopian fiction and posthuman thought, Molloy creates immersive environments using welded steel, stainless steel, neon, sound and salvaged materials. Molloy’s practice is driven by process-led experimentation, where collapse, adaptation and reconstruction become both method and concept.

Molloy’s sculptures often appear as armoured creatures or unstable architectures, embodying endurance within damaged worlds. Through artist-run initiatives and independent curatorial activity, he is also committed to building platforms for contemporary art in Western Australia. Molloy’s work positions sculpture as a site of persistence, tension and transformation in an age of uncertainty.
