At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Laura Ward

Quick Response Artist-in-Residence

Quick Response Artist-in-Residence

During her residency, Laura Ward will create large-scale beaded works to be featured in durational performances that address ideas relating to the human body, health and emotional trauma. Through the development of these works, Ward invites audiences to engage in meaningful dialogue about the body’s capabilities and limitations.

About the artist

Laura Ward is an emerging multidisciplinary artist practicing in Boorloo (Perth). Her work explores interpersonal themes of identity, relationships, and the human body in response to their health conditions. Wards intimate approach to her practice incorporates her own body as an instrument to express her fascination with the human body and its changing qualities. Combining screen printing, textiles, beads, and soft sculpture, her work often mimics bodily forms and abject textures such as bruises, fluid, scars, wounds, and blemishes. Ward aims to celebrate the human body and highlight incredible yet challenging capabilities.
