Liv McIntyre’s practice examines the fabrication of femininity in proximity to pain through the intertwined gaze of Catholicism and patriarchy. Through reclaimed textiles, natural dying processes and found materials, their work reflects on the historical violence enacted upon women’s bodies under these ideologies.  

In 2026 PICA and Edith Cowan University have embarked on a new partnership to support a recent ECU Fine Arts graduate to develop a new body of work while in residence at PICA. The resulting body of work will be exhibited in a solo exhibition at Spectrum Project Space in September 2026. Through this partnership, the selected artist will receive curatorial and logistical guidance by PICA and ECU staff to gain valuable experience developing and exhibiting new contemporary artworks.  

About the artist

Liv McIntyre is an emerging queer, multidisciplinary artist based in Perth (Boorloo), working across textile installation, paint, sculpture, video performance and silkscreen printing. Their practice is environmentally considered and politically informed, drawing on religious ideologies and domestic rituals to explore the intersections of femininity, pain and devotion.

Guided by a ritualised approach to material processes, they are enamoured by the grotesque and violent intimacies of womanhood as a means of understanding their own gendered experience. By interrogating narratives of sanctified suffering through a contemporary feminist framework, they seek to create space for dialogue, introspection, and reclamation as the foundations for meaningful change.
