Quick Response Artist-in-Residence

Michael Bullock’s artistic practice invests in the materials and languages of sculpture and its display, through processes and techniques of making, casting, assembling and forming.  

During his residency at PICA, Michael will research and develop a new project, Paper Ruins. He will draw on postcards, textbooks and obsolete technologies, such as photocopies, to examine the history of sculpture through its representations.  

About the artist

Michael Bullock is an artist, educator and arts worker based in Boorloo, Perth. Michael has held solo exhibitions at galleries throughout Australia and overseas, including Fremantle Arts Centre, Gallery 4A, Gertrude Contemporary, Linden Centre for Contemporary Art and the Australian Embassy, Hanoi, Vietnam. He has participated in group exhibitions, projects and socially engaged residencies nationally and internationally, including the Asialink/SPACED reciprocal residency at One Shanthiroad, Bangalore (2013) and a window until the rains come as part of Albb Open Studio Program, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2010). Michael’s artworks are included in the collections of Artbank, Monash University and Curtin University. In 2021, Michael completed his PhD in creative research, Market Values, at Monash University, Melbourne.
