Music on a String

Presented by Decibel New Music Ensemble

Music on a String celebrates Jon Rose’s 60th birthday and is both dedicated to and inspired by him. This concert is tied together by the idea of the string, the thread, the line – a crucial part of Rose’s innovative new music practice for many years. Guest artists, guitarists Ant Gray and Bill Darby, as well as Melbourne ensemble Golden Fur will feature on the night as well as several world premiere’s including Jone Rose’s The Auctioneer Says and a tribute to American alt-rockers Low.

For over 35 years, Rose has been at the sharp end of new, improvised, and experimental music and media. He appeared on over 60 albums, and worked with artists such as Kronos Quartet, Derek Bailey, John Cage and John Zorn.

Decibel is Australia’s leading new music ensemble committed to Australian music and emerging Western Australian composers, as well as sharing important international works with Australian audiences. Every Decibel concert is a unique experience and their performances at PICA during 2011 were critically acclaimed. Be sure to get your tickets early for Music on a String, as it is sure to sell out..
