At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Patrick Doherty

Patrick Doherty’s epic scaled works generate fields of ideas, possible interpretations and meanings. Seductively loaded with a rich combination of humour, criticality and symbolism Doherty’s work marries the qualities of contemporary street art with the grand traditions of history painting. Known for working on walls and large unstretched canvases, Doherty will work for the duration of his studio residence on a huge army tarp, taking the viewer on a journey between the realms of classical mythology, fairytales, urban myths and current affairs.
