WASTED is a new dance theatre work being developed by Katrina Lazaroff, founder of independent dance theatre company One Point 618. The first stage development of this work occurred as part of Australian Dance Theatre’s Enhancement Program over 3 weeks in July 2013. In 2014 WASTED will be developed both as part of the inSPACE development program at the Adelaide Festival Centre (AFC) and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art development program (PICA).
WASTED will explore the concept of wasted potential, drawing parallels between physical and mental waste. The work has evolved from Lazaroff’s fascination with human psychology, looking at how life circumstance, environmental influences and social constructs impact on our psyche and the way we direct our lives. Metaphorically, WASTED draws parallels between physical and mental waste, depicted by the set and design elements, which will comprise of geometrical forms constructed from mesh caging and physical waste items. In the final production of the work, these elements will be enhanced by innovative lighting and digital video projection, to create a sense of 3D imagery inside each structure.
