At PICA we recognise that we are situated within the unceded lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects and offer our gratitude to Elders past and present, and to those emerging leaders in the community. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the importance of their care and continued connection to culture, community and Country.

Always was, always will be.

Galleries are closed until 7 February. Our exhibitions are always free.

Birak Market

Birak Market

Birak marks the hot and dry season, when the warm days are cooled by the afternoon sea breeze and a dip in the maambakoort (ocean) or Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River). The start of the season also sees the vibrant flowering of Nuytsia Floribunda, known as the Western Australian Christmas Tree, just in time for end of year festivities.

To celebrate, PICA Shop invites you to join us for our first Birak Market featuring local artists and craft makers. The Birak Market gives you the opportunity to shop locally made ceramics, jewellery, prints, textiles and more. Find a gift for now or a gift for under the Christmas Tree.

Shop with Adult Contemporary, Alex Lekias, Bukesh-la, Ellie Rox Jewellery, FISH Social Enterprise, Lauren Jane Salt, Martumili Artists, Neigbourhood Press, Nina Raper, Pip Lewi, Sakura Yamashita + more to be announced. All sales going directly to the artists and makers.

Inside the galleries, view exhibitions by Jack Ball, Paul Knight and Shannon Te Ao. You can also take this opportunity to meet resident-artist Ayesha Singh visiting from New Delhi, India as part of PICA’s Cross-Hatching International Exchange Residency with Khoj Studios.

Alex Hotel’s newly re-opened Lobby Bar is just a stone’s throw away (coffee and snacks available). Picabar is also open for lunch and afternoon refreshments. And don’t miss the final outing of Amy Perejuan-Capone’s A Snowy Christmas which kicks off in the Perth Cultural Centre from 4pm, a perfect afternoon activity for the family.
