EXHIBITION OPENINGS | JUSTENE WILLIAMS & GORDON BENNETT

Please join us as we celebrate the openings of two major solo exhibitions, Justene Williams: The Curtain Breathed Deeply and Gordon Bennett: Be Polite.
The Curtain Breathed Deeply presents an immersive collection of video and sculptural work by artist Justene Williams. This, Williams largest and most ambitious undertaking to date sees the artist use found objects and waste materials to create dazzling theatrical environments, seducing visitors through a variety of hypnotizing sets and ‘performative’ video installations.
Be Polite is an exhibition of largely unseen works on paper by one of Australia’s most visionary and critical artists, Gordon Bennett (1955-2014). On tour from the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane, this curated selection of Bennett’s works on paper comprises drawing, painting, watercolour, poetry, and essays from the early 1990s through to the early 2000s, a period that produced work of remarkable force and revealed the artist’s working methods, research focuses, and ultimately his ambitions for his work.
The exhibitions will be opened by Johan Lundh, Executive Director of Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane. Don’t miss the live performance of Justene William’s concertina dance Two Fold.
