Join Hatched Curatorial Associate, Mia Palmer-Verevis for a special tour of the Hatched: National Graduate Show 2026. Now in its 35th year, Hatched is one of PICA’s mostly highly anticipated annual exhibitions and has become the launching ground for some of Australia’s most exciting contemporary artists. 

Mia will be joined by WA-based Hatched 2026 artists Jessica Shannon and Tai Kelly. Hear firsthand about their creative practices and gain deeper insight into Mia’s curatorial approach to this year’s exhibition.

About the artists

Mia Palmer-Verevis is PICA’s Hatched Curatorial Associate 2025-2026. Mia has independently curated exhibitions at Linden New Art, Blindside ARI and George Paton Gallery, Melbourne and has a specific interest in presenting, producing and advocating for experimental contemporary art by emerging creatives.

Jessica Shannon is an emerging multidisciplinary artist living and working between Fremantle and the Pilbara region of Western Australia. She recently completed an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts at North Metropolitan TAFE, and earlier an Advanced Diploma of Design for Industry, informing her material-led and process-driven approach. Working with found objects, materials, and mediums, her practice explores place as both material and memory, examining how landscape, climate, and industry transform people, objects, and environments over time.

Tai Kelly is an installation artist whose practice extends across drawing and sound. She investigates interspecies communication through material experimentation, using mediums that are non-traditional and at times living. Informed by her background in electronic music production and circuit building, she constructs responsive systems that reimagine how sound operates as a mode of exchange between species. Her work aims to entangle human and non-human worlds, revealing speculative languages that emerge through ritual to form kinship with unfamiliar forms of intelligence. Kelly’s installations function as active ecosystems, shifting through cycles of breathing, decay, rust, and regeneration. By allowing her works to transform in situ, she challenges conventional modes of presentation through temporal processes. Through these evolving systems of communication, Kelly imagines possibilities for future modes of coexistence that may gently expand how we understand our place within broader ecological systems.
